Strange Stage is very proud to present Spookshow – Voyage.

This is the first in the Spookshow line and includes everything needed to put on a fully immersive show. It’s literally an entire act in a box! Centred around the RMS Titanic disaster of 1912, it’s ready to evoke the parlor room séances of the time.

What you get:

A solid oak box with a sleeve designed to look period-appropriate, resembling a box that might have been left in first-class carriages with complimentary items. The sleeve appears to be a later addition, transforming it into a séance kit.

12 cabinet cards – vintage-style cards featuring passengers from the Titanic, integral to several routines in the act.

6 artefacts with museum tags:

• A bosun’s whistle
• A 1912 English penny
• A fountain pen
• A wooden yo-yo
• A locket
• A key

Each item has been aged for authenticity, and several of the items are actually from the period.

And the piece I’m most proud of—the Morse code tapper—is designed to look like an authentic Morse code device from the period and is complete with an easy-to-follow code. With this device, you can have the spirits spell out anything you like! All under your control and completely hands-free! The electronics are all contained in the device, and it doesn’t have to be placed on the box at all. You could even have someone hold it if you trust them not to drop it when it inevitably moves on its own!

A breakdown of what can be achieved with the kit:

• An ‘out of this world’ effect with the cabinet cards – multiple methods are discussed in the video download.
• A focusing exercise where your sitters are asked to focus on one of the cards, and everyone ends up thinking of the same one. No memory work is needed as the cards include a clever crib, so you can always be assured.
• You will ask two people to make choices regarding the artefacts—one a conscious choice and one an unconscious choice. Surprisingly, they will match via the ingenious method of the force tags. If you haven’t seen these before, you’re in for a treat—they’re my favourite forcing method in magic!
• A “which hand” routine using the coin under the veil of a gambling ruse—the participant is also asked to generate a lucky number. After they do this, you ask them to throw an imaginary (or real, if you prefer) die and to multiply their number by it. Then, they add each digit to create a ‘lucky number.’ You, of course, know what this is without any peeks—this is based on a very old method that often leaves magicians thinking you’ve used an electronic die, which you have not in this case!
• The key is naturally haunted and can turn over in your hand on demand.
• The yo-yo has an eerie way of finding its owner, and so does the locket when used as a pendulum!
• It’s at this stage that it can be revealed that everyone has been thinking of the same photo, and the main act begins. The lights are dimmed, and the Morse code device is brought out. Messages from beyond the veil are tapped out and deciphered by the participants using the manual. There’s no need to learn the code as it’s right there in plain sight. I prefer a “less is more” approach and tap out a name or a few words, but this is completely up to you and how far you want to take it.

The routines are all modular, so you can vary how long your performance lasts. The manual guides you through the entire act, so no memory work is required. The act can be framed as an exploration of an old antique store find being performed for the first time, or as the work of an experienced séance practitioner, depending on the performer’s character preference.
